Thomas Kwan, a GP from Sunderland, is accused of attempting to murder his mother’s partner, Patrick O’Hara, with a toxic chemical while posing as a nurse. The court in Newcastle heard Kwan used forged NHS documents to administer a supposed Covid booster, resulting in O'Hara suffering a severe illness. Kwan denies attempted murder but admits to administering a noxious substance, claiming he intended only to cause discomfort.
A court has learned of a detailed plan by Thomas Kwan, a general practitioner from Sunderland, to allegedly attempt the murder of Patrick O'Hara, his mother's partner, by injecting him with a flesh-eating chemical while disguised as a nurse.
Kwan, 53, targeted O’Hara, 71, during a supposed home-visit for a
Covid booster in Newcastle.
Intent on securing his inheritance, Kwan allegedly used falsified NHS documents, a wig, and fake identification to gain trust.
Later, O’Hara was hospitalized with necrotising fasciitis.
Prosecutors argue Kwan, who harbored a fixation on toxins, employed his medical knowledge to administer iodomethane.
Kwan, a GP based in Ingleby Barwick, was found to possess various harmful chemicals.
While admitting to administering a noxious substance, he denies attempted murder, claiming only to have aimed to cause discomfort.
The trial at Newcastle Crown Court continues.
