Ex-Fiancé of Olympic Medalist Jailed for Fraud in South Korea
Jeon Cheong-jo sentenced to 13 years for swindling 35 victims
The Seoul High Court in South Korea sentenced Jeon Cheong-jo, 28, to 13 years in prison for defrauding 35 people of over 3.5 billion won (approximately $2.5 million).
Jeon, a former fiancé of Olympic silver medalist Nam Hyun-hee, posed as a chaebol heir to deceive victims, continuing fraudulent activities even after previous convictions.
The sentence extends a lower court's ruling by one year, noting Jeon's high risk of reoffending.
Jeon also gained infamy for violently threatening Nam's nephew, which was combined with her fraud case to result in the final verdict.
