Video footage shows the men, one of whom was reportedly drunk, coming to blows while mid-air on Friday. At least one of the men was not wearing a face covering, despite airline KLM specifically asking passengers to wear them from first boarding call until arriving at their destination.
The airline reported that the passengers had been restrained with the help of others on the flight, before being arrested by Spanish authorities upon arrival at the party hotspot.
One of the men involved appears to be topless and can be seen pinned to the ground with a bloodied nose towards the end of the clip.
Instagram account The Mic High Club, which shared the clip to social media, captioned the post with the message: ‘Panic and violent brawl! Unruly English passenger onboard KLM flight to Ibiza, he had been drinking Gregus vodka.
‘They refused to wear face masks. 2 arrests were made.’
Other passengers tried to bring a halt to the brawl, with one shouting: ‘Stop now, there are kids over here!’
As part of the Netherlands’ efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus, face coverings are mandatory at airports and on all KLM flights. Despite this, several other holidaymakers on the video appeared not to be wearing masks.
The only exceptions to the rule are for those under the age of 10 or those who cannot wear them for medical reasons. The company wrote on its website: ‘Without [a] face covering, we cannot allow you to board. We strongly advise you wear a mask at the rest of the airport as well.’
‘The pilot informed the local authorities and upon arrival, both passengers were arrested. The flight safety was not compromised during the flight.’
