Former President Restricted from Leaving Ukraine Amid Alleged Plan to Meet Hungary's Viktor Orban
Ukraine's former President Poroshenko was prevented from leaving the country to meet with Hungary's Prime Minister Orban, despite having parliamentary permission. Under martial law, Ukrainian men aged 18-60 require special approval to travel abroad. Poroshenko, who was president until 2019, intended to hold talks with U.S. and Polish officials but was accused by Ukraine's security services of potentially aiding Russian interests through a meeting with Orban.
Hungary's spokesperson declined to engage in Ukraine's internal politics, not confirming plans for a meeting.
Poroshenko, calling the border incident an attack on unity, has not addressed the allegation regarding Orban.
Ukrainian authorities have remained silent about Poroshenko’s planned travel, while the Parliament speaker has criticized Poroshenko's party for misinformation about travel restrictions on its members.
Separately, Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant nearly faced an accident due to power loss, later restored by Kyiv.
The plant, under Russian control and a site of concern, requires consistent power for safety systems.
The International Atomic Energy Agency is monitoring the situation.
In military updates, overnight, Ukrainian air defenses destroyed most Iranian-made drones and one missile launched by Russia, with Russia claiming to have downed two Ukrainian rockets over the Sea of Azov.
