Aviva Sees Surge in Health Insurance Customers Amid NHS Crisis
Aviva, a UK-based insurance company, saw a significant increase in the number of new health insurance customers in the first quarter of 2023, with over 123,000 new customers, due to difficulties in the NHS, as staff shortages and strikes have led to longer waiting lists.
The company's CEO Amanda Blanc linked the rise in new policies to the failings in the public health service, and stated that more individuals and companies are attracted to the benefits of private cover.
Despite mixed performance in other areas, general insurance premiums rose 11% to £2.4bn, and pension income was up 25% due to new pension schemes.
