Allegations against VG robbery trio compelling, court hears

Compelling allegations against the three persons who were arrested and charged for allegedly carrying out a daring robbery in Virgin Gorda on October 15, 2020, contributed to their bail being denied by Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin when they made their maiden appearance at the John’s Hole facility on October 20, 2020.

Tray Audain, 25, of no fixed place of abode, Rakeem Lennard, 28, of North Sound, and Lekhoy Hughes, 20, of no fixed place of abode were not required to plead to the charges since the matter is indictable.

The court heard by Magistrate Benjamin that another factor she considered was two of the men had no permanent place of residence. Another man, she explained, escaped from the police and the guns used during the crime were not yet found.

“Bail is made on allegations and the strength of the allegations, and I also have to consider the personal circumstances of each. Bail is denied in relations to all three defendants,” she remarked.

The men will spend Christmas behind bars and will be returned to court on January 27, 2021.

Tray Audain, 25, of no fixed place of abode, Rakeem Lennard, 28, of North Sound, and Lekhoy Hughes, 21, of no fixed place of abode, who were arrested and charged for a daring robbery in Virgin Gorda on October 15, 2020, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court today, October 20, 2020, and were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison by Magistrate Christilyn Benjamin.

Allegations

Prosecutor Kael London said, on October 15, 2020, the Virtual Complainants were outside a supermarket on Lee Road when they were robbed of their handbags by two masked, armed men.

The men then escaped on a awaiting White Kia Rental vehicle.

An individual who saw the robbery and escape proceeded to report the matter to the police, who responded.

Police investigations led them to a parked white vehicle in the vicinity of the North Sound Basketball Court. Inside the vehicle, police found the men; however, a fourth man escaped and remains at large.

Notably, inside the vehicle with the defendants, two female handbags were found with cash and other personal belongings.

The bags were later identified as those of the two VC’s.

The men were arrested, interviewed, where they denied the allegations.

They were later charged with the offence of Robbery.

Defendant Audain, the driver of the vehicle used in the crime, is represented by Attorney Stacy Abel.

Attorney Ruthilia Maximea represents Hughes and Lennard.
