William Gallas raises concern over Arsenal's new £27million signing

William Gallas raises concern over Arsenal's new £27million signing

William Gallas has raised a major concern over Arsenal’s most expensive January signing Leandro Trossard.

The Gunners added three new faces to a squad that was badly in need of reinforcements if they were to maintain their unlikely challenge for the Premier League title.

Defender Jakub Kiwior will offer a viable alternative to Gabriel Magalhaes, who has started every league game so far this season, while deadline day recruit Jorginho will bolster a midfield department that was increasingly reliant on Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal had, meanwhile, intended to break their transfer record in order to sign Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk but were beaten to the punch by Chelsea who hijacked the deal.

Mikel Arteta swiftly turned his attention to Belgium international Trossard, but former Arsenal skipper Gallas is worried that the former Brighton star may struggle with the demands of representing a far bigger club.

He told gentingcasino: ‘I don’t know if Leandro Trossard is a good signing. He has a big profile like his fellow teammates but the question is, can he lift his level at a big club?

‘If it’s a good signing, he will help take Arsenal to victory. When you bring players to a big club, they have to play really well, so we need to wait and see what happens.’

Mykhailo Mudryk was hauled off at half-time against Fulham on his Chelsea home debut

Mudryk, meanwhile has a made a mixed start to his Chelsea career having impressed on debut against Liverpool, before being hauled off at half-time during last Friday night’s stalemate against Fulham.

Graham Potter explained the Ukraine international had been suffering with a cold, but regardless of his fitness, Gallas feels the 22-year-old will ultimately regret not signing for Arsenal.

He added: ‘Mudryk may have made a mistake, he had the opportunity to play for Arsenal.

‘The way Arsenal play, he would have fit into that squad and at the end of the season, he may regret it. What if Chelsea do not qualify for the Champions League?

‘Arsenal may be the champions in the end. At the end of the season, maybe he will regret it. It could have been an opportunity for him to play well and in the Champions League next season.

‘However, Arsenal will have to move on, and now they will have the chance to bring in new players so that they can play with the players they want.’
