UK and Antigua and Barbuda leaders back Commonwealth role in financial reform
The UK Prime Minister and Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, agreed that the Commonwealth offered a unique opportunity to advance international financial reform, including climate finance, during talks in St John’s on 3 November 2026.
Meeting at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, the leaders also discussed opportunities for closer trading ties between their countries to support jobs in the UK and supply chains in the Caribbean.
The UK Prime Minister thanked Browne for Antigua and Barbuda’s warm welcome and for hosting Commonwealth leaders at an important time. The Prime Minister argued that global volatility made the Commonwealth more important than ever.
The UK wanted to work with partners large and small around the world to advance the global good and address some of the most pressing challenges facing this generation, the Prime Minister added.
The leaders looked forward to speaking again at the leaders’ retreat the following day.
