UK Braces for Storm Herminia: Winds and Heavy Rain Impact Several Regions
Yellow warnings for wind and rain are issued as Storm Herminia moves through the UK following the devastation of Storm Éowyn.
The UK is facing the arrival of Storm Herminia, which is bringing high winds and heavy rainfall, following the impact of Storm Éowyn last week.
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain in several regions, including southern England, the North West, the West Midlands, and Yorkshire.
Gusts of wind could reach 65mph, with some areas experiencing gusts up to 80mph, which may lead to damage to buildings and transport disruptions.
Power cuts have affected thousands of people, particularly in the south-west of England, where flooding has also been reported.
The storm, which first affected Spain and France, is expected to bring gusts of up to 70mph around exposed coasts and inland gusts of up to 50mph.
Rainfall is also a concern, with the possibility of 20mm to 40mm across various regions and up to 70mm on higher ground.
Warnings for heavy rain have been issued for the West Midlands and most of Wales, where flooding could impact roads and properties.
Storm Herminia is less powerful than Storm Éowyn, which left two dead in the UK after causing widespread disruption and destruction last week.
Over a million properties across the British Isles were without power at the height of Storm Éowyn, and damage to the electricity infrastructure is still being repaired.
In addition, a British sailor remains missing off the French coast after his yacht was found damaged following the storm's impact on France.
While Herminia is not expected to reach the intensity of its predecessor, the UK remains under alert as it continues to feel the storm's effects into Monday.
The Met Office has advised commuters to check travel updates, as disruptions to transport are anticipated.
