Elon Musk declares that the humanoid robot Optimus could perform operations and aims for a Q1 2026 unveiling as Tesla expands into robotics and medical technology
During
Tesla’s latest earnings call, Chief Executive
Elon Musk described the humanoid robot Optimus — due for release as Version 3 in the first quarter of 2026 — as having the potential to become “the biggest product of all time.” Musk outlined an ambitious plan for the robot to evolve beyond industrial and domestic applications to include advanced medical uses, such as assisting doctors and even performing surgeries.
He explained that combining
Tesla’s autonomous-driving software with next-generation robotics would create a platform capable of performing complex physical tasks with precision.
Musk said, “Imagine a world where everyone has access to an incredible surgeon,” predicting that Optimus could democratize healthcare access, reduce poverty, and transform global productivity.
The Optimus V3 prototype is expected to feature major improvements in coordination, dexterity, and self-learning capabilities, as well as new sensory and mobility systems.
Musk noted that
Tesla is preparing for mass production, aiming to scale to over one million units per year once manufacturing stabilizes.
Tesla’s leadership emphasized that this shift toward robotics marks a new chapter for the company, expanding beyond electric vehicles into artificial intelligence, automation, and healthcare innovation.
Musk framed the initiative as part of a broader mission to achieve “sustainable abundance” — an ecosystem where robots, vehicles, and intelligent systems work seamlessly together to enhance human life.
Despite the optimism, the company acknowledged significant engineering and regulatory challenges ahead, particularly as Optimus moves into medical applications.
Still, Musk reiterated his conviction that robotics and autonomy are
Tesla’s long-term growth engines and the foundation of its future identity as a global technology leader.
