Prince Harry and Meghan to Move Back to Britain With Their Children

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to relocate later this month to a private home outside London, with Archie and Lilibet due to begin school in the United Kingdom in September.
Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are preparing to move back to the United Kingdom with their children after more than six years living in California.

The family is expected to relocate later this month to a private, non-royal home outside London.

Their children, Prince Archie, aged seven, and Princess Lilibet, aged five, have been enrolled at British schools and are due to start in September.

The move would mark the most substantial return to Britain by the Sussexes since they stepped back from working royal duties in 2020 and established their family life in Montecito, California.

They are not expected to resume official roles on behalf of the Royal Family.

The exact location of their new home and the children's school have not been disclosed.

The family is expected to retain its properties in California and Portugal, meaning the move may create a life divided between the United Kingdom and the United States rather than a complete break with America.

Harry and Meghan's decision has particular significance because of the couple's troubled relationship with parts of the Royal Family and Harry's long-running concerns about security in Britain.

The duke has argued in court that he cannot safely bring Meghan and their children to the United Kingdom without adequate police protection.

His legal disputes over security arrangements have continued to shape the family's ability to spend time in Britain.

The planned relocation also follows renewed contact between Harry and King Charles III.

The King was informed of the move and is understood to welcome the prospect of spending more time with his grandchildren.

Archie was born in Britain in 2019, while Lilibet was born in California in 2021. Both children have spent only limited time in the United Kingdom since the Sussexes left their royal roles.

Harry and Meghan's departure from frontline royal life followed deep disagreements over their role, media treatment, financial independence and family relationships.

The couple later described their experience in interviews, a Netflix documentary series and Harry's memoir, "Spare." Relations with Prince William remain strained.

The couple are expected to continue their own work after the move.

Meghan will maintain her business activities, while Harry is expected to focus on charitable projects with strong ties to the United Kingdom.

Their children's arrival at school in September is the clearest immediate sign that the family is preparing to rebuild a regular life in Britain outside the formal structure of the monarchy.
