Signalling Faults Causes Travel Disruption Across London
Passengers on the Elizabeth Line and related services faced delays due to multiple incidents, including a signalling fault and a water main burst.
Travel across London faced significant disruptions today due to a signalling fault at West Drayton affecting services on the Elizabeth Line, Heathrow Express, and Great Western Railway.
National Rail reported that all services running between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport were at risk of delays or cancellations as a result of this fault.
The disruption was declared over shortly before 4 PM.
In addition to the issues on the Elizabeth Line, passengers on the Bakerloo line experienced severe delays between Queen's Park and Harrow and Wealdstone due to an earlier malfunctioning train at Willesden Junction.
Passengers relying on City Thameslink were unable to access the station today due to flooding caused by a burst water main.
National Rail advised travelers to use nearby alternatives, including Blackfriars, which is located a five-minute walk away, and Farringdon, a 12-minute walk from City Thameslink.
Additional disruption was reported on the Circle and District lines, with severe delays on the Circle line anticlockwise due to a points failure at Aldgate East.
The District line also faced minor delays between Earl’s Court and Upminster as a result of the same incident.
The Hammersmith & City line had part of its service suspended between Liverpool Street and Barking along with severe delays on the rest of the line, also due to the points failure at Aldgate East.
West Kensington station was temporarily closed for routine testing of its evacuation system, according to Transport for London (TfL).
On the Metropolitan line, minor delays were reported between Harrow-On-The-Hill and Aldgate due to a fire alert.
TfL stated that severe delays persisted between Willesden Junction and Richmond / Clapham Junction as a consequence of another faulty train.
As part of the ongoing response to infrastructure issues, Thameslink confirmed that engineers from Network Rail would be on site today to address the damage incurred by the water leak at City Thameslink, providing updates on the anticipated reopening timeline.
