Man charged after police remove passenger from Jet2 flight

Anthony Henriques, 47, was released on bail after officers boarded the Antalya-to-Leeds Bradford service following reports of disruption.

A Leeds man has been charged with interfering with an aircraft crew member’s duties after police removed him from a Jet2 flight arriving from Antalya in Turkey.

West Yorkshire Police officers boarded flight LS292 at Leeds Bradford Airport shortly before 7pm on Monday 2 November following reports of disruption during the journey. A man was escorted from the aircraft and taken to a holding area near immigration.

Anthony Henriques, 47, from Leeds, was later charged with intentionally interfering with the performance of an aircraft member’s duty. Police said he was released on bail to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on 5 January.

Fellow passenger Kash Ahmed, from Bradford, said he had heard a commotion towards the back of the aircraft before the captain asked passengers to remain seated after landing.

“We heard some commotion at the back of the plane again, and I didn’t think too much of it,” he said.

“As the plane landed, we were getting ready to leave, and then the captain made an announcement to stay in place.

“All of a sudden, the police boarded the plane and removed a gentleman who had kids with him.”

West Yorkshire Police said the aircraft had landed during the afternoon and that officers attended following a report of disruption on board during the flight.

Jet2 confirmed that police attended its Antalya-to-Leeds Bradford service to remove a passenger whom the airline described as disruptive.

A spokesperson said: “As a family friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour and will always take appropriate action against those responsible, including issuing bans and pursuing legal action where appropriate.”
