A van driver helped a Surrey Police officer catch a suspected shoplifter by offering him a lift as he pursued the man on foot in Guildford.
Footage shows PC Sperling running after a suspect in a grey tracksuit who is riding away on a bicycle. A grey van pulls alongside the officer on Woking Road, and the driver offers to help him catch up.
The driver and officer locate the cyclist and get ahead of him, allowing PC Sperling to jump out and make the arrest.
Surrey Police said the chase took place on Tuesday after officers spotted someone suspected of stealing from a nearby shop.
Thanking the driver on social media, the force said: “Big thanks to the Good Samaritan who gave our officer a lift during a foot chase for a suspected shoplifter on Tuesday!”
