Rescuers break open army camp well to free elephant calf
Wildlife personnel spent two hours freeing the young animal after it fell into a well while searching for water in West Bengal.
Rescuers used an excavator to break through the walls of a well at an army camp in eastern India, freeing an elephant calf after a two-hour operation.
The calf had been searching for water in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, on the morning of 4 November when it accidentally fell into the well.
Wildlife squad personnel brought in the heavy machinery to create an escape route through the well’s boundary wall. Footage shows the calf clambering through the opening and walking to safety.
