FBI Reveals Alleged Assassination Attempt on Queen Elizabeth During US Visit in 1983 and 1991 Concerns
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released documents revealing that a potential assassination attempt was made on Queen Elizabeth during her visit to the United States in 1983.
The documents state that a police officer met a man at an Irish pub in San Francisco who claimed to be seeking revenge for his daughter's death in Northern Ireland and planned to harm Queen Elizabeth either by dropping an object off the Golden Gate Bridge onto her yacht or by killing her during her visit to Yosemite National Park.
The FBI prepared to close the walkways on the Golden Gate Bridge in response to the threat, but it is unknown what steps were taken in Yosemite.
Another document made available online by the FBI pertaining to the Queen's 1991 state visit to the US discloses worries that Irish groups were preparing to oppose her appearance at a baseball game and a White House event.
Lord Mountbatten, the Queen's second cousin, died in a 1979 IRA bombing in Ireland.
