Panamanian Alonso Edward qualifies for the semifinals of the 200 meter sprint in Tokyo 2020

Panamanian sprinter Alonso Edward advanced to the semi-finals of the men's 200-meter sprint at the Tokyo Olympics.
Edward, who raced in heat 4, lane 8, finished second with a time of 20 seconds 60 hundredths.

The Panamanian runner (31 years old) was surpassed by the American Erriyon Knighton (17 years old), who registered 20.55. The third place went to the Belgian Robin Vanderbemden with 20:70, 27 years old.

The national sprinter was among the first places from the start and in the last 100 meters he dedicated himself to maintaining the rhythm.

In the elimination series of the 200 m, 7 events classify to the semifinals those who finish in first and second place and the three best times of the rest of the competitors.

According to the competition calendar, the three series of the semifinals will take place this Tuesday starting at 6:50 in the morning (Panama time).

In London, he was disqualified for a false start, while in Rio de Janeiro he qualified for the 200m final as first in his semi-final. He finished in seventh position in the Olympic final, in which Usain Bolt took gold.
