Major Commuter Disruptions in London Following M11 Collision and Train Strikes

A series of incidents, including a serious motorway crash and upcoming train strikes, are causing significant travel delays in London and surrounding areas.
London is experiencing significant travel disruptions due to multiple incidents affecting both road and rail services.

A serious collision on the M11 motorway near Stansted Airport caused a complete closure of the road in both directions earlier today.

The incident, which occurred at approximately 4:46 AM on the southbound carriageway, involved a motorcycle and a car.

An extensive emergency response was initiated, including the deployment of an air ambulance.

According to Essex Police, all lanes on the M11 have since reopened, although delays are expected to continue throughout the day.

Motorists have been advised to exercise caution and plan their journeys accordingly.

The motorway experienced a prolonged closure, affecting traffic patterns and resulting in significant congestion.

In addition to the road disruptions, train services across South London are facing considerable delays due to a signalling fault between Herne Hill and London Blackfriars.

This issue has affected multiple key routes, including services from Sevenoaks, Orpington, and Sutton, leading to revised schedules and anticipated delays until approximately 4 PM. Commuters are encouraged to check travel updates before setting off.

Further complicating the travel situation, train drivers on the Elizabeth Line, operated by MTR, are set to strike on February 27 and March 1, 8, and 10. The industrial action arises from a dispute over pay, with General Secretary of the Aslef union, Mick Whelan, stating that drivers are not being properly recognized for their contributions to the service's success.

The union’s members had overwhelmingly voted in favor of the strikes, citing the company’s failure to acknowledge the importance of train drivers in its operations.

On the Piccadilly Line, commuters are facing severe delays due to an earlier signal failure at Hyde Park Corner.

Network Rail has reported that the issue has been resolved, but residual delays are expected.

In another incident, motorists are experiencing delays on the A41 Finchley Road near St John’s Wood Station due to a road accident at the junction with Acacia Road and Grove End Road, where construction work is also ongoing.

These series of incidents collectively highlight the ongoing challenges for London commuters, exacerbated by infrastructural issues and labor disputes.
