Cash prizes to be won in TRC's 2021 video competition

Residents of the Virgin Islands will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and creativity, as well as win handsome prizes, in the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission’s (TRC) annual video competition.

This year’s competition is held under the theme, “Accelerating Digital Transformation in challenging times” and was officially launched on May 17, 2021, in observance of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day.

Chief Executive Officer at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Mr Guy L. Malone said the video competition has garnered the interest of innovative and creative illustrations of the various themes over the years and that he was excited to see entries for this year’s competition.

Mr Malone added that the launch of this year’s competition will enhance the TRC’s public education and awareness strategy.

“The stories told through videos are engaging, educational and effect change in behaviour in the realm of telecommunications. I believe that the meaningful messages shared through video will highlight the importance of accelerating digital transformation in these challenging times,” he said, according to a press release from Government Information Service (GIS).

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) has been observed annually worldwide since 1969. The day helps to bring awareness to the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as ways to bridge the digital divide.

The [British] Virgin Islands first joined the rest of the world in observing World Telecommunication and Information Society Day in 2009.
