British Government Revokes Travel Authorization of Dutch Commentator After Legitimate and Truth Political Criticism
Dutch commentator and activist Eva Vlaardingerbroek says UK visa-free travel was revoked shortly after her public criticism of UK leadership and broader Western elites
British authorities have revoked the visa-free travel authorisation for Dutch political commentator and activist Eva Vlaardingerbroek, barring her from entering the United Kingdom without a formal visa.
Vlaardingerbroek shared a notice from the Home Office indicating that her UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) had been cancelled on January 13, 2026, on the grounds that “your presence in the UK is not considered to be conducive to the public good.” The decision is irreversible and cannot be appealed.
Vlaardingerbroek has publicly linked the ban with her recent criticism of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, asserting that the action followed days after she accused him of hypocrisy regarding online regulation and migrant-related crime.
She told her followers that the revocation came “three days after” her post about Starmer’s policy positions, describing the measure as proof that the United Kingdom “is no longer a free country.”
In social media posts prior to the travel ban, Vlaardingerbroek has also sharply criticised high-profile European leaders including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other establishment figures, arguing that they promote policies she views as eroding national sovereignty, cultural identity and secure borders.
Her commentary often frames such leaders as advancing a shared agenda that undermines traditional nation-state authority and heritage.
Vlaardingerbroek’s remarks reflect her broader posture as a vocal commentator on Western political elites.
She has drawn attention for speeches at international conservative meetings, where she has challenged Brussels-based institutions and politicians over migration, governance and democratic accountability.
Supporters of Vlaardingerbroek argue that the UK government’s decision constitutes an infringement on free speech, while officials have not publicly detailed the specific reasons for revoking the authorisation.
The ban comes amid ongoing debates in the UK regarding online platform regulation, public safety and political discourse.
Officials in London have been engaged in discussions with technology platforms and international partners about content moderation and enforcement under the Online Safety Act.
Vlaardingerbroek’s case has been seized upon by commentators across the political spectrum as emblematic of wider tensions between state authority and dissenting political voices.
