BNO Visa holders not eligible for early withdrawal of MPF
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority today said MPF providers should not allow workers using BNO as evidence to withdraw the fund early as the Hong Kong government no longer recognizes the passport as legal travel documents.
The Authority pointed out that MPF providers must always act in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong, they should also act as the gatekeeper to verify all information of the claimant.
The Hong Kong government earlier said on January 29 that British National Overseas (BNO) passports cannot be used for immigration clearance and will not be recognized as a form of proof of identity in Hong Kong.
The move follows China’s countermeasures against the British government’s handling of issues related to its special British passports.
