Committee Chairman James Comer relayed that Barr also confirmed he was unaware of any “Epstein client list” and had never discussed it with Trump.
Comer noted that Barr told investigators that if any documents involving Trump had existed, they likely would have surfaced before the 2024 election.
Barr’s testimony marks the opening of a bipartisan investigation into federal handling of the Epstein affair, which will include questioning several current and former officials.
In compliance with a congressional subpoena, the Justice Department will begin releasing records related to the Epstein investigation on Friday.
Records will be redacted to protect victim identities and sensitive content.
The request covers documents pertaining to the 2007 non-prosecution agreement, the 2019-20 indictments, Epstein’s death, and communications involving the DOJ and White House.
A series of subpoenas have been issued for depositions from high-profile figures including Bill and Hillary Clinton, multiple former U.S. attorneys general, and former FBI directors.
The House Oversight Committee has spotlighted transparency and thorough review of the Epstein files as central to the ongoing inquiry.
