A computer error that led to a teenager's car insurance being suspended. Connor Davies, a 17-year-old driver from Penrhyncoch, Ceredigion, had a black box monitor in his car that mistakenly read the speed limit on 60mph roads as 20mph. This error triggered dangerous driving alerts, causing his insurance company, Sterling Insurance, to suspend his cover for four days.
Despite Connor's insistence that he wasn't speeding, the alerts continued, and his comprehensive cover was eventually suspended. His mother, Angela, and even his sister, social media influencer Jess Davies, tried to help resolve the issue. They went to the locations of the alleged speeding infractions, took pictures of road signs next to a digital map, and shared the problem on social media.
Sterling Insurance acknowledged the error, explaining that the national database had changed speed limits in Connor's local area over four days, and a technological issue prevented the update from reflecting in the Fluxscore app. The company reinstated Connor's policy, apologized for the inconvenience, and termed it an isolated incident with no further reports of affected customers in Wales.
