Passenger Travels Under Wrong Identity on British Airways Flight
A woman's recent flight to Madrid raises concerns about security protocols after she was issued a boarding pass with someone else's name
A passenger travelled from London Heathrow Airport to Madrid under the wrong identity after being issued a boarding pass with a man's name, despite presenting her own passport.
The incident occurred on British Airways flight BA7055, operated by Iberia, on 23 April.
The passenger, who was supposed to travel in economy class, was given a business class seat and a boarding pass bearing the name Huw H. The error was only discovered after the plane landed, when the passenger's return flight was cancelled due to her being listed as a no-show on the outbound flight.
An investigation has been launched by the Civil Aviation Authority into the incident, which has raised concerns about security protocols.
British Airways has apologized for the mistake and offered a goodwill voucher, as well as refunding the cost of an additional ticket booked for the passenger's return journey.
The airline has stated that incidents like this are extremely rare and has taken steps to ensure it does not happen again.
The incident highlights the importance of checking boarding passes carefully, with the passenger vowing to read every detail in future.
