Hundreds of students at the University of Sussex have been warned they may be unable to graduate or re-register for the next academic year if they fail to pay outstanding debts.
Those affected include students from Nigeria and Iran, whose currencies have significantly devalued, making it difficult to pay their fees.
The university reassured that no students would be removed from their courses due to unpaid debts and would not be removed from university accommodation this academic year.
This follows similar actions at Teesside University, where Nigerian students were withdrawn from their courses and ordered to leave the UK due to unpaid fees.
The University of Sussex's pro-vice-chancellor, Prof Kate O’Riordan, stated that tuition fee debt must be settled for graduation or re-registration.
The students’ union highlighted the growing financial pressures faced by students, particularly international ones, and called for more support.
