Polish farmers protest EU rules by blocking key road to Germany
On Sunday, Polish farmers disrupted traffic on a crucial highway to Germany, protesting EU regulations and taxes.
The A2 motorway demonstration near Slubice could persist, as farmers stand firm. Commencing at 1 pm, the blockade affected both A2 lanes, said police.
The farmers plan a 25-day protest, possibly shortened if negotiations with officials and businesses succeed. The EU's Green Deal is their main concern, as they argue it increases production costs, making their goods less competitive compared to non-EU imports, coupled with tax hikes.
Demonstrations have spread across Europe for weeks, opposing environmental mandates in the Green Deal and EU's agricultural policy. The EU has since relaxed some measures amid protest pressures.
With EU farm ministers meeting in Brussels today, Polish farmers also protest cheaper Ukrainian imports by blocking border points.
