Police Investigate 40 New Allegations Against Mohamed Al Fayed
The Metropolitan Police are investigating 40 new allegations against Mohamed Al Fayed after a BBC documentary prompted 65 women to accuse him of abuse. Al Fayed, who died in 2023, previously owned Harrods, where many of the alleged incidents occurred. The police are exploring cases involving other potential suspects, reviewing older accusations dating back to 1977, and working with the IOPC to ensure proper handling.
Following the release of a BBC documentary, 65 women have come forward with allegations of abuse by Mohamed Al Fayed, former owner of Harrods.
The Metropolitan Police have documented 40 new allegations in addition to 21 previously known cases before the documentary aired.
Al Fayed, who passed away in 2023, owned Harrods from 1985 to 2010.
Despite no possibility of convicting Al Fayed, police are exploring other potential suspects.
Cdr Stephen Clayman emphasized continued investigation and a full review of past allegations which include claims from as far back as 1977.
Allegations suggest a culture of abuse at Harrods and elsewhere, with accusations of sexual exploitation under false pretenses.
Harrods, now under different ownership, is conducting an independent review, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is involved in overseeing the police's handling of the cases.
