Seven Men Charged with Attempted Murder and Terrorism in Connection with Shooting of Police Officer
Seven men have been charged with attempted murder and membership of a proscribed organization, namely the IRA, in connection with the shooting of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell, a senior police officer in Northern Ireland.
Caldwell was shot in front of his young son at a sports complex in Omagh on February 22.
Three of the men also face charges for preparation of terrorist acts.
The seven men were arrested on Friday along with four others, who were released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
Caldwell sustained life-changing injuries in the attack, which was widely condemned.
The detective made his first public appearance since the shooting at Hillsborough Castle on Wednesday, where he had an audience with the King.
