British Writer Pens The Best Description Of Trump I’ve Read

Nate White
“Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?” Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England wrote the following response:
A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.

There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.

And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down.

So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:

• Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.

• You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.

This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump.

And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.

Back in the 1950s when racism was overt and enshrined in law, white supremacy forbade white people from honoring black people with honorific titles like Miss or Mister; it was always Sam or Lucy. To heighten the contempt being expressed, the white speaker would deliberately mispronounce the name. We thought those days were gone. But think again. The racist Republican Party has decided to follow their racist leader’s example of mangling the Vice President’s name. This as a means of showing contempt. They even agree on what the mispronunciation is. We’re clearly moving backwards in this country.

Without doubt, Mr. Trump could register his large-heartedness by admitting that though he has repeatedly and relentlessly referred to black public figures as lazy, dumb, and savage, and though he thinks Muslims are straining to destroy us, and that Mexicans and Argentinians are infusing purple blood into our Pure Whiteness, that despite this history of racist enmity, he declares himself the least racist person in the room (look what I’ve done for the nigs), I bet you anything that when Mr Trump has to report to the penitentiary for his period of incarceration for the crimes he has been convicted of will insist - I say INSIST - that he sit in jail alongside a BLM prisoner in order to establish once and for all that Donald J is not the fire breathing hater the mainstream press makes him out to be.

He’s love starved, because he’s an old decrepit man who hasn’t the slightest notion of what love is. He thinks it has to do with impressing people by parading his conquest of the Playmate of the Year. He’s beyond pitiful.

Still, I agree with that sage from the Times Maureen Dowd, who wrote to me that Trump is looking for love. In all the wrong places. He is a pathetic creature who has never been loved. He is excluded from the most powerful force available to man.

I do agree that when it comes to moral character, Trump represents rock bottom.

Reality TV is not reality. It’s make believe.

By “someone,” I mean the voters at the polls. I pray for a peaceful transition of power after what happened in 2020. That’s the kind of horror which had no place in a democracy.

Non-leaders like DT are not created in a vacuum. A people get a government they deserve - and out of the systematic dumbing down of America, lowering bars, and tolerating racism - are born national embarrassments like DT. He’s a narcissistic bully and a demagogue who has mastered the art of talking hate to his MAGA. supporters by constantly telling them that every non-white is their enemy and bad for their country. Like himself, he keeps his voters steeped in alternate reality so they never question his narrative about the “others.” He has no notion of how to be a leader. He brings out the worst in people around him, especially his base. He killed a bipartisan border security bill just so he could make it the proverbial stick with which he could beat the Democrats on the head. I cannot imagine why he was ever deemed a patriot. He’s got no record of public service. He filled the White House with his cronies and family members during his tenure. His staff never lasted beyond a few weeks and many of them are now helping Harris. He’s the laughing stock among world leaders and won’t admit it. He thought he could grab the presidency from an aging Biden with ease. And now the tables are turned on him. He’s furious at being humiliated by a woman of color twenty years his junior. He rambles nonsensically most of the time. He was never cut out to be a dignified statesman who would do his country any credit. Instead, he’s running as a convicted felon. His bag of tricks to fool people is running out. He’s now resorting to laughable conspiracy theories and other “gimmicks” to garner sympathy votes and portray himself a Martyr. This article hits every nail on the head. Jan 6 was the icing on the cake of his disgrace. I cannot imagine how half this country has supported this atrocity from him. What he did was unpardonable. I hope the other half of this country holds him accountable for this treason this year. He has no place in the Oval Office and neither does his appalling running mate. They would destroy this country with their anti-science, anti-women, and anti-immigrant policies. I hope someone stops them.

At the debate, Donald Trump continued to claim “In Springfield, they’re [immigrants] eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the pets of people that live there”. His vicious lies resulted in death threats and violence from his thug supporters on innocent people in Springfield.

That outrageous claim had already been debunked, not only by the authorities in Springfield, but by the originator of the post that started the whole farce, yet Trump demonstrated how incapable he is of telling the truth, and repeated it to the 60 million who watched the debate. Guess who ate it up? His MAGA supporters! As a direct result of Trump’s unhinged comments, innocent people in Springfield have been threatened, property has been destroyed, and Trump continues to go unpunished. He needs to be locked up.

What kind of person could possibly see Trump as presidential material? His deliberate mispronunciation of names is reminiscent of the eight-year-old children I had in my classroom. He is still doing it! Is that a leader of a respected nation? What about that insane right-wing groupie that is currently hanging on his arm instead of his wife? Laura Loomer, the far right hate-speech activist who is as insane as Trump is.

The GOP created this monster, and they have lost any shred of credibility they once had.
