Border Force Seizes Yacht Amidst English Channel Crossings
Border Force officers seized a yacht tied to small boat crossings in the English Channel on Saturday. 413 people crossed the Channel in small boats on Friday, and to date, 15,489 have crossed this year, a 10% increase from 2023. The Home Office stated that the new government is enhancing border security, including launching a Border Security Command.
The Home Office did not comment on the exact number of migrants aboard the yacht.
To date, 15,489 people have crossed the Channel this year, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
While dinghies are commonly used for crossings, using a yacht is unusual.
Since Monday, 1,157 people have been rescued from the Channel, and two have died.
Another four people died in the Channel the previous week.
On Friday, the Home Office confirmed a British Border Force vessel returned migrants to France for the first time while assisting a French search and rescue operation.
