Bodmin Nightclub Stabbing: Jake Hill Sentenced to Life for Murdering Rugby Player Michael Riddiough-Allen
Jake Hill, 25, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 28 years for murdering Michael Riddiough-Allen, 32, in Bodmin, Cornwall, in April 2023.
Hill stabbed Mr. Riddiough-Allen outside Eclipse Nightclub after the venue closed, also injuring four others with a hidden serrated hunting knife.
Mr. Riddiough-Allen tried to intervene and prevent further harm but died from a wound to his abdomen.
At the sentencing in Truro Crown Court, Mrs. Justice Cutts honored Mr. Riddiough-Allen as a man of exceptional qualities and attributed his death and the injuries to Hill's decision to carry a knife.
Tia Taylor, 22, from Bodmin, was sentenced to three years in prison for manslaughter and perverting the course of justice.
Her co-accused, Chelsea Powell, 22, also from Bodmin, received 15 months for perverting the course of justice.
The judge noted that Hill, who carried a weapon during a brawl, showed no remorse and described the incident as a "paradigm case" of knife violence.
The victim's sister, Becky Dustan, read a victim impact statement expressing the profound impact of Mr. Riddiough-Allen's death.
Taylor will be eligible for parole after 18 months, while Powell was released immediately due to time served on remand.
The speaker expressed that the death of Michael Riddiough-Allen was devastating for everyone involved, and his family would never be the same.
She described how his attempt to protect others from a man with a knife resulted in his own death, leaving him humiliated and lying on the ground.
Detective Inspector Ilona Rosson from Devon and Cornwall Police stated that Riddiough-Allen tried to protect those around him and disarmed a man, but unfortunately lost his life in the process.
