Mercedes was traveling between 83mph and 92mph in a 30mph zone when it became airborne and hit a lamppost, killing his friend, Hamse Ismali, aged 28.
Two other passengers suffered injuries.
Sewell, 27, pleaded guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court and was also disqualified from driving for five years, effective upon his release from prison.
West Midlands Police emphasized Sewell's total disregard for safety, noting he admitted responsibility for the incident.
Despite emergency services' efforts, Mr. Ismali died at the scene, and the tragedy highlighted the severe consequences of drink-driving and reckless speeding.
