Bayeux Tapestry to Be Displayed in UK for First Time in Nearly 1,000 Years
Historic loan marks cultural milestone in Franco-British relations
The Bayeux Tapestry, an 11th-century embroidery depicting the Norman conquest of England, will be exhibited in the United Kingdom for the first time in nearly a millennium.
Scheduled for display at the British Museum from September 2026 to July 2027, this historic loan coincides with French President Emmanuel Macron's state visit and symbolizes the enduring cultural ties between France and the UK.
In return, Britain will lend France significant artifacts, including the Sutton Hoo treasures and the Lewis Chessmen, highlighting a mutual commitment to preserving shared heritage.
