UK Post Office Scandal Linked to Multiple Suicides, Inquiry Finds
Faulty IT system led to wrongful convictions and severe personal consequences
A public inquiry into the UK's Post Office Horizon scandal has revealed that at least 13 individuals may have taken their own lives due to wrongful accusations stemming from a faulty IT accounting system developed by Fujitsu.
Between 1999 and 2015, over 1,000 postmasters were prosecuted based on erroneous data, leading to convictions, bankruptcies, and severe mental health issues.
The inquiry criticizes the Post Office and Fujitsu for their roles and calls for comprehensive compensation and restorative justice measures for the victims and their families.
