5 Million Barrels of Russian Sokol Oil Delayed on Its Way to India
Nearly five million barrels of Russian Sokol oil are stalled on their way to India, potentially due to US sanctions against tankers violating a G7 price cap.
Bloomberg highlighted the disruption, although the original sources weren't named. In November, Reuters identified three tankers sanctioned by the US for transporting Sokol crude to India.
Despite Western countries distancing from Russian oil after the Ukraine conflict, India, a major oil consumer, has increased its Russian imports.
Bloomberg's data indicates that one sanctioned tanker, the NS Century, along with two other Sovcomflot vessels, remains near Sri Lanka, en route to India's Vadinar port. Russian-controlled Sovcomflot faces sanctions from the UK, EU, and financial restrictions from the US.
