23-year-old Libby Vernon sentenced to six months in prison for an elaborate scheme involving false pregnancy claims and forged documents.
Libby Vernon, a 23-year-old from Warrington, England, has been sentenced to six months in prison after she was found guilty of deceiving her boyfriend into believing she was pregnant with twins.
The court heard details of a 13-month con that began with Vernon meeting the man online via the social media app Yubo.
During their first video call, she presented herself as a different person through a fake
Facebook account.
As the relationship progressed, Vernon and the man eventually met in person, and she began to send him fabricated baby photos, falsely claiming to be pregnant.
In November 2023, she informed him that the unborn child had died of sudden infant death syndrome, even providing a forged death certificate to support her claims.
Following this, Vernon further manipulated the victim by claiming she had become pregnant again, this time with twins.
She presented forged images, including ultrasound scans and manipulated photos indicating fetal distress.
During this period, she suggested that the couple conduct a gender reveal event, where she claimed to have discovered they were having twin boys.
Concerns regarding Vernon’s authenticity emerged when the victim's family began questioning the legitimacy of her apparent pregnancy.
In June 2024, following their doubts, the victim took action by visiting a hospital to seek confirmation.
Medical staff conducted a scan, revealing that Vernon was not pregnant and had been wearing a fake baby bump.
In court, the prosecutor, Pamela Fee, outlined Vernon’s charges, including sending false communications and using a false death certificate intended to cause harm.
The victim described the emotional turmoil he experienced as a result of Vernon's actions, stating that the loss of the imaginary twins had a profound impact on his life.
After her sentencing, Vernon was issued a two-year restraining order alongside the immediate jail term.
