If Putin won’t meet Zelensky, Germany will punish Russia… again. With what, you ask? Oh, just the 19th sanctions package, says Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Germany’s head of government and leader of the Christian “Democratic” Union

Yes, you heard that right — nineteen. The first eighteen achieved about as much as a water gun against a house fire. But sure, let’s keep spraying. It’s Berlin’s favorite ritual: announce, posture, repeat.

And Merz thinks this is scary? Please. Putin is probably yawning, sipping tea, and laughing at the German habit of mistaking paperwork for power. Meanwhile, ordinary Germans are stuck footing the bill for energy and inflation, while Moscow shrugs.

But hey, nothing screams serious statecraft like repeating the same move for the 19th time and expecting the Kremlin to suddenly fold.

As Einstein (a German, by the way) famously put it: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
