Tragic Death of British Teenager in Skiing Accident in Italy
A 14-year-old boy dies after crashing into a tree while skiing in Cortina d'Ampezzo.
A British teenager has died following a skiing accident in Cortina d’Ampezzo, an exclusive resort in northern Italy.
The 14-year-old boy reportedly lost control while descending the Falzarego run, a 3.5-kilometer slope designated as intermediate in difficulty.
He veered off the marked path and collided with a tree, sustaining severe chest injuries.
Emergency services were deployed to the scene via helicopter and chairlift, but attempts to resuscitate the boy were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Investigators arrived to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, and his body has been transferred to a local hospital.
The young skier was on a family holiday, and it has been reported that his parents are receiving psychological support in the wake of this tragedy.
The family had been staying in the village of San Cassiano, located near the ski resort.
A spokesperson from the foreign office confirmed that they are providing assistance to the family and are in contact with local authorities regarding the incident.
Cortina d'Ampezzo has a history of skiing-related accidents involving children.
Notably, in 2011, a ten-year-old boy died after hitting a tree in the Tofane mountains, and in 2016, a 14-year-old from Florence suffered fatal injuries after crashing into a snowmaking device.
The city is preparing to host skiing events for the upcoming Winter Olympics in 2026, alongside Milan, highlighting its prominence in the winter sports scene.
