A devastating event unfolded at the Early Learners Day Nursery in Bootle, Merseyside, as a two-year-old boy succumbed to a fatal medical episode on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident has drawn the attention of law enforcement, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child's untimely death.

Merseyside Police were summoned to the scene at 12.35 pm, following reports of a medical emergency.

Despite the immediate response from paramedics, who transported the child to a nearby hospital, the young boy was sadly pronounced deceased.

Police officials have confirmed that the boy's family is receiving support during this difficult time, and have assured that a meticulous inquiry is underway.

The current stance is that the cause of death remains unexplained.

The nursery itself, which was assessed as 'Good' by Ofsted inspectors last year, expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

In a message shared on social media, the nursery communicated with parents and caregivers, acknowledging the tragic loss and announcing a temporary closure for the remainder of the week.

This pause will permit staff to process the events and collaborate closely with relevant agencies.

The message read: "Dear parents and carers, as you are aware, this afternoon a medical emergency occurred at the nursery.

It is with devastating sadness that we have to inform you of a child's passing.

To enable everyone to process today's tragic events, we have made the decision to close the nursery for the remainder of the week, and also to allow us to continue working with relevant agencies.

We trust that you understand our decision at this difficult time and we will update you all with further information in the coming days.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family."

Bootle, a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside, is navigating the grief accompanying such a heart-wrenching event, as are communities and childcare facilities nationwide that recognize the gravity of such incidents.

The nursery has been approached for further comment, as the community awaits detailed outcomes from ongoing investigations.
