Three Men Convicted of Murder Plot Against Securitas Robbery Accomplice
Conviction follows a meticulous assassination attempt against Paul Allen, a key figure in Britain's largest cash robbery.
Three men have been found guilty of conspiracy to murder Paul Allen, a former cagefighter and convicted participant in the UK’s largest cash robbery.
The verdict was delivered at the Old Bailey, where jurors heard that the plot aimed to kill Allen in July 2019, following his severe injuries from a shooting incident that left him paralyzed.
Paul Allen, aged 47, was shot six times in his kitchen in Woodford Green, East London.
Prosecutors stated that the attack reflected a careful and calculated plan, as the defendants conducted extensive surveillance and fitted a tracking device to Allen's car.
The attackers, identified as Louis Ahearne, 36, Stewart Ahearne, 46, and Daniel Kelly, 46, were found guilty on Monday.
The court was informed that a month prior to the shooting, the Ahearne brothers and Kelly had been involved in the theft of valuable artifacts from the Museum of Far Eastern Art in Geneva, valued at over $3.5 million (£2.78 million).
Allen had been released from prison and was living in a luxury property with his family when the attempted murder occurred.
He had previously been convicted in 2009 for his involvement in the Securitas heist in Kent, during which £54 million in cash was stolen, most of which remains unaccounted for.
During the attack, Allen was struck by gunfire while he was in his home, causing significant injury.
The shooting was initiated shortly after 11:00 PM, with evidence suggesting that the attackers initially approached the property under the cover of darkness.
The investigation led police to recover DNA evidence from the scene that matched the accused.
Further evidence presented in court included matching bullet casings to a handgun found at Kelly’s residence.
Additionally, surveillance footage tracked the rental car used by the assailants to the scene of the crime.
The defendants’ operation extended beyond the murder plot; they were also implicated in a burglary the day before Allen was shot, which involved a gated community in Sevenoaks, Kent.
Following their extradition from Switzerland, they stood trial at the Old Bailey, where they faced serious charges stemming from their criminal activities.
The sentencing for the three men is slated for April 25th, where they could face substantial prison time.
Detective Superintendent Matt Webb of the Metropolitan Police characterized the defendants as “hardened organized criminals,” emphasizing the seriousness of their actions and the impact of their crime on society.
