The Duchess of Sussex Mourns Devastating Loss of Beloved Rescue Dog

Meghan pays heartfelt tribute to beagle Guy, her loyal companion through life's milestones.
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, recently shared a heartfelt message with the public, revealing her grief over the passing of her cherished rescue beagle, Guy.

The poignant announcement was made via an Instagram post on Monday night, where Meghan expressed her deep emotional turmoil over the loss.

In her moving note, the Duchess described the extent of her sorrow: 'I have cried too many tears to count,' she admitted.

'The type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there.

But they are.

And that’s OK too.'

Guy's journey with Meghan is a touching narrative that begins in 2015, at a shelter in Kentucky.

The beagle was facing dire circumstances, having only days left before being rescued from a life-threatening situation.

Meghan adopted Guy from a Canadian rescue center, describing the moment as love at first sight: 'I swooped him up… and fell in love,' she reminisced.

The loyal beagle was by Meghan’s side as she navigated significant chapters of her life, including her role in the popular TV show 'Suits,' her engagement and marriage to Prince Harry, and her transition into motherhood.

Accompanying images in the Instagram post featured Guy alongside Meghan, Prince Harry, and their children, Archie and Lili, highlighting the integral part he played in their family life.

Guy's resilience was evidenced by his survival from a serious accident shortly before Meghan's relocation to the UK in 2017.

He endured extensive surgeries over several months, remaining in medical care in Surrey.

'Doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it,' Meghan recounted, appreciating the expert care he received.

Committed to his recovery, Meghan and Prince Harry frequently visited Guy during his convalescence, demonstrating their unwavering support.

'We would drive late at night, after hours, to see Guy as he recovered in Surrey for months on end,' she revealed.

The Duchess also mentioned Guy's role in her upcoming Netflix series 'With Love, Meghan,' where he makes a special appearance.

The series, set to premiere on January 15, features Meghan hosting friends and notable personalities at a scenic California estate, sharing her insights on cooking, gardening, and hospitality.

Meghan shared her hope that viewers of the series will come to appreciate Guy's charm and understand the depth of her loss.

Reflecting on the origins of Guy's name, she disclosed that his moniker was inspired by his delicate stature at the shelter, where he was affectionately referred to as 'the little guy.'

Despite Guy's passing, the Duchess of Sussex's home remains filled with canine companions, including another rescue beagle named Mia and a black Labrador called Pula.

The family’s commitment to rescuing and cherishing animals continues to be a testament to their enduring compassion.
