Sunak Refuses to Say if Conservative MPs Should Apologize for Alleged Interference in Commons Inquiry
Rishi Sunak, the UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer, has refused to say whether Conservative MPs accused of trying to "interfere" with a Commons inquiry into Prime Minister Boris Johnson should apologize.
The Privileges Committee found that seven MPs and three peers, all Conservatives, had sought to "influence the outcome" of the probe.
The report has led to a free speech row, with those named saying there is no reason they should not be able to criticize its conclusions.
Sunak has also been criticized for missing the Commons vote on the findings and for his attendance record at PMQs. He has been scheduled to miss the next two sessions of PMQs due to events marking the 75th anniversary of the NHS and a summit of Nato leaders.
