Planet Earth III: NI woman helps bring natural world to our screens

Estelle Cheuk, an assistant producer from Coleraine, County Londonderry, has had the opportunity to work on the BBC's Planet Earth III series.

The eight-part series, narrated and presented by Sir David Attenborough, showcases animals from around the world and their struggles for survival. Filmed over five years in 43 different countries, the series uses cutting-edge technology to explore the challenges faced by the natural world.

Estelle's episode, "Coasts," focuses on the plights of Caribbean flamingos and green turtles. Growing up on the Northern Ireland coast sparked her love for the ocean and wildlife, making her work on the series a dream come true.

She described the experience of seeing over 20,000 Caribbean flamingos as a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle and had the privilege of meeting Sir David Attenborough, who remains enthusiastic about the natural world.

Estelle acknowledged the pressure of contributing to a series with a storied history but considers it an honor to be part of Planet Earth III and to continue inspiring curiosity and passion for the natural world.
