Former Scottish Health Secretary Michael Matheson has been banned from Holyrood for 27 days after incurring an eleven thousand pound data bill on a parliamentary iPad. The SNP did not support the sanctions and called for a review of the complaints process, alleging bias. Attempts to make Matheson resign were rejected due to a Scottish Greens amendment.
Michael Matheson, the former Scottish Health Secretary, has been banned from Holyrood for 27 sitting days after incurring an £11,000 data bill on a parliamentary iPad while on holiday.
The sanctions were recommended by the standards committee and passed with 64 votes in favor.
Matheson will also have his salary withdrawn for 54 days.
The Scottish National Party (SNP) did not support the sanctions, arguing the complaints process was biased and called for its review.
Despite attempts by the Scottish Conservatives, supported by Scottish Labour, to force Matheson to resign, the calls were rejected following a Scottish Greens amendment.
