Metropolitan Police Deal with Daily Dangerous Dog Seizures in 2022
The Metropolitan Police in London are dealing with at least one dangerous dog every day, with 479 such seizures in 2022 under the Dangerous Dogs Act, up from 333 in 2021 and 336 in 2019.
The Met has already seized 154 dogs this year.
The figures show that seizures of American bully dogs have become more common in recent years, with 44 seized in 2022 so far, compared to no seizures in 2018 and 2019.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council says the rise in recorded dog attacks is due to increased focus from police, but campaign groups warn against expanding the list of banned dog types.
The government has set up a responsible dog ownership working group to look into ways of reducing dog attacks.
Greater Manchester Police arrested a 35-year-old woman after responding to a dog attack in Swanley Avenue, Monsall, Manchester.
The boy's injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
The woman was arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control and is in police custody for questioning.
