Lucy Letby, a convicted child killer, is on trial for attempting to murder a premature baby girl known as Baby K in 2016. Prosecutor Nick Johnson says Letby was caught displacing the infant's breathing tube. Previously convicted of multiple murders, Letby denies the new charge.
Lucy Letby, a convicted child killer, is on trial again for allegedly attempting to murder a premature baby girl, known as Baby K, at the Countess of Chester Hospital in February 2016.
Prosecutor Nick
Johnson claims Letby, then 34, was caught displacing the infant's breathing tube by senior paediatric consultant Ravi Jayaram, who found her standing over Baby K as oxygen levels fell.
Alarms that should have sounded did not, which
Johnson argues indicates interference by Letby.
She had previously been convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill six more between 2015 and 2016. Letby denies the attempted murder charge.
Her lawyer, Ben Myers, contends that her previous convictions do not prove this allegation. The jury was informed that Letby's status as a convicted multiple murderer is a significant factor in the retrial.
