London set for two-week warm dry spell with 21C on the way

Londoners will be bathed in sunshine for much of the next two weeks as the rainy weather which has drenched the capital gives way to summer-like conditions.
Temperatures are expected to nudge over 20C most days with a high pressure front ushering in a period of warm and stable weather according to the Met Office.

There will be some showers on Friday but they will subside and the sun will shine for much of the next two weeks, giving Londoners the opportunity to finally fire up barbecues and head to parks after a spring hit by heavy rainfall and temperatures below average for the time of the year.

The weather boost comes as the capital is gearing up for the Chelsea Flower Show starting on Monday with the Met Office saying that high summer temperatures are “tantalisingly” close.

Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures rise to 19 Celsius this weekend in London, ahead of a weather front called the “Africa plume” arriving towards the end of May that is expected to send temperatures over 25C.

Grahame Madge, Met Office spokesman, told the Standard: “The area of high pressure currently bringing settled weather is expected to remain in situ throughout the coming week.

“There is rain in the forecast tonight and the possibility that some areas will see occasional showers. Across the capital we can expect to see temperatures reach daytime highs in the low 20Cs with the prospect of something a little higher tantalisingly within reach.”

London hottest day on record was recorded in July 2022 after a temperature of 40.2C was registered at Heathrow Airport.

All four seasons in 2022 were in the top 10 warmest on record for the UK.
