Humza Yousaf's Rocky Start as Scotland's First Minister: Green Party Tensions and Betrayal Allegations
Humza Yousaf's tenure as Scotland's first minister is under threat due to issues with a cooperation deal, known as the Bute House Agreement, with the Scottish Green Party.
The agreement, which aimed for new politics of collaboration, ended in a contentious meeting at Bute House in April 2022.
Despite no raised voices, the discussion was reportedly tense.
Lorna Slater and Patrick Harvie of the Scottish Greens emerged from a meeting with anger, accusing SNP leader Humza Yousaf of betrayal, cowardice, and weakness.
Yousaf, who was addressing the media inside, responded with confidence, stating that this was leadership and that the SNP was taking control as a party and government.
Both sides seemed buoyant after the split.
Senior Scottish government figures faced disappointment as the Scottish Greens announced they would take action against Transport Minister, Mr Yousaf, in a confidence motion at Holyrood.
The Greens accused Mr Yousaf of giving in to right-wing elements within the SNP. Their frustration stemmed from the Scottish government's decision to abandon a target to reduce emissions of planet-warming gases by 75% by 2030.
