French Authorities Arrest Boss of Italy's Most Violent Mafia, Fugitive Since Last Year
Marco Raduano, a dangerous mafia boss listed among Europol's most wanted, was arrested in Corsica, France, after escaping an Italian prison last year.
His accomplice, Gianluigi Troiano, was caught in southern Spain. Raduano, leader of the violent Gargano clan of Italy's so-called Fourth Mafia, was serving 24 years for various crimes, including murder.
His capture, along with Troiano's, deals a significant blow to organized crime, Italian officials said. Despite using fake IDs and living modestly, Raduano was apprehended without resistance in a Corsican restaurant.
Both arrests highlight Italian authorities' determination and international collaboration against the Fourth Mafia, a group less known than other mafias but notorious for extortion, violence, and drug trafficking.
