Crew Members Apprehended Following Interception of Yacht in the Atlantic Carrying £96 Million Worth of Cocaine
Three people, including a Scottish captain, were apprehended following the seizure of approximately £96 million worth of cocaine from a yacht in the Atlantic, as part of a cooperative international crackdown on drug trafficking coordinated by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) and partners in France and Spain.
A Spanish yacht was intercepted 1,200 miles east of Martinique by the French navy, yielding about 1.2 tonnes of cocaine in 40 bales.
The NCA indicated that the cocaine's street value could reach £96 million once diluted for sale. The arrested crew members, one being a 29-year-old Scotsman, have been charged in Martinique. The operation also resulted in the apprehension of five individuals in Spain, including a British expat father and son in Marbella.
With combined efforts from various international law enforcement agencies, this significant drug haul has been thwarted from entering Europe, potentially disrupting the drug trade's contribution to crime and disorder in UK communities.
